Jian Tang

Short Biography

Currently, I am a Ph.D Candidate and Research Assistant in Distributed Systems Laboratory (LSD) of Technical University of Madrid. The title of my Dissertation is Agreement Abstractions in Homonymous Distributed System Prone to Failures that co-directed by Professor Ernesto Jiménez Merino and Professor Sergio Arévalo Viñuales.  

I got my master degree of engineering from the School of Reliability and System Engineering, Beihang University (previously known as Beijing University of Aeronauticas and Astronautics), and two bachelor degrees from the University of Jinan (one is the degree of engineering from the School of Control Science and Engineering, another one is the degree of management from the School of Management).

Research Interests

  • My research mainly focus on the design of fault-tolerant distributed algorithms (consensus, broadcast, failure detector, etc.) in homonymous distributed systems. 
  • A distributed systems is eponymous if each process has a unique identifier, otherwise, it is homonymous(i.e., some processes share an identical identifier). If each process has no identifier or share only one identifier, this extreme kind of homonymous distributed systems is also called as anonymous distributed systems. The difficulty of design distributed algorithms in homonymous distributed system is how to break the symmetry caused by the lack of unique identifier.
